November 1, 2018 was a historic day for the Baptist Health family. That was the day we gained another facility to our team: Baptist Health-Fort Smith. “This is an energizing and exciting day,” said Troy Wells, our President and CEO. There’s a lot of enthusiasm around Baptist Health aligning with the outstanding reputation of this team of dedicated physicians and caregivers. We hope to compliment the quality of care that the River Valley has come to expect. And the River Valley has been expecting that quality of care for quite some time. Much like our hospital in Little Rock, the Townsend Avenue hospital in Fort Smith had a long history with the Arkansas community. Baptist Health-Fort Smith was the first hospital ever built in Arkansas, all the way back in 1887. It’s come a long way since then. Today, it is a 492-bed medical center accredited by The Joint Commission, and is heralded as one of the busiest emergency departments in the state. Baptist Health-Fort Smith offers a variety of specialties for our employees to grow with. From cardiology, cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, interventional radiology and stroke care, orthopedics, general and trauma surgery, labor and delivery, pediatrics, and more, there’s no limit to where you can take your healthcare career. The resources of Baptist Health-Fort Smith don’t end there. We offer state-of-the-art services for our patients, and even serve them in their regular health needs as well. The Marvin Altman Fitness Center includes an indoor running track, massage therapy, yoga studios, a junior Olympic-size indoor pool, and cardiac rehabilitation services--all to care for our community in the best ways we know how. We were thrilled to have Baptist Health-Fort Smith #KeepOnAmazing with us, and we’re happy the feeling is reciprocated. As Harrison Dean told the SW Times, “I’m humbled to think of the opportunities we have for the state’s first hospital in Fort Smith joining Baptist Health.” As we serve more people, Baptist Health will continue to provide faith-based health care that strengthens communities we serve and encourages healthy lifestyle changes, which is consistent with our belief that we are more than a business — we are a healing ministry. Baptist Health is proud to offer healing across Arkansas and Oklahoma. Our impact on the community at large is one of the biggest tenets our team members hold. We make a positive impact on our society through our clinical work and outreach, and with amazing people like the folks at Baptist Health-Fort Smith, we know we’ll be able to continue that mission for a long, long time.
