A nursing career at Baptist Health offers the opportunity to make an impactful change in the lives of others, give back to your community, and love your neighbor while working for your future. We take pride in caring for our nurses so that they can focus on caring for others. One of the ways we do that, of course, is via nurse recognition. Our nurses truly #KeepOnAmazing, and we love to acknowledge their accomplishments. From team huddle shout-outs to the DAISY award, we want our nurses to know we see their dedication. Nicole Fegley found out all about that when we nominated her for the Compassionate Nurse Award. The purpose of the Compassionate Nurse Award, in the organization’s words, is to “find the one nurse we can say is the most outstanding in the state.” We chatted with Nicole over the phone to hear what she thought about her nomination. How did you first hear that you were nominated for the Compassionate Nurse Award? They called me! I was pleased and grateful. How do you feel you put compassion into your work? It’s about just being there for the patient. What is your exact title and how long have you been with Baptist Health? I’m an RN II and I’ve been with Baptist Health for two years. I work in the Stuttgart location. What population do you work with and why are you drawn to that? I work with the Maternal/Child department. I always knew I wanted to be a nurse, and when I was sixteen I watched my sister deliver her child. That’s when I knew what I wanted to do with my life. Ah, so do you relate to people on the personal level because of that experience? Yes. Also being in a small community helps. What would you say to someone who is starting out as a nurse? Don’t get discouraged. There’s a lot of things you don’t know, and that’s fine. I came in one night and worked with a preeclamptic patient, which I had never seen before. We had to get her stable before we transported her, but we were able to work together. How would you describe the team you work with? We all work together as a group. There’s only eight of us, so we’re really close, and most of the time we just have to look at each other to know what each of us needs. We work together as a family. One last question: when you’re not at work, what do you like to do? We spend a lot of time outside. We ride four-wheelers. And I have three boys (15, 12, and 4) and an 11-year-old girl. There was a glimpse into Nicole’s world! To find out more about the Baptist Health family, check out the employee stories on our career site.
