4 Ways to Develop Your Career at Baptist Health and How they Contribute to a Better Culture of Care

We believe in providing support to our staff from day one. By caring for our employees and their development, we are able to ensure the best care for our patients and the community.Kayla Bumgardner, a BS RT (R), is a Process Coordinator at Baptist Health in the Interventional Radiology Department. Kayla truly loves her job and the opportunities here that provide our employees to grow and learn. We sat down with her to go over a few of those opportunities and how we are constantly building a better culture of care.

  1. The Baptist Health Medical College

When given the opportunity, developing our clinical staff from the start is something we value. Kayla attended the X-Ray program we offer and had the opportunity to train in different areas of the programs. Due to her successful training, Kayla went to work with us right after graduation.

I got to experience one-on-one what it was like to do the job before I actually started doing the job! This was great preparation for me. I started off in Cath lab because I really enjoyed it, but I’ve had the opportunity to rotate in the department I’m in, which has given me invaluable experience.

  1. Departmental Growth Opportunities

It’s important for our employees to have the opportunity to grow and learn. We also want to be sure we include compensation for the hard work and dedication it takes to advance. Kayla gives the example:

When I was in Cath Lab, they had a clinical ladder that you could climb. You start off just learning the basics and then you add on different things as you advance. With those advances you’re given promotions and pay raises. I’ve been able to really develop my career that way.

By allowing our employees the opportunity to learn and develop this way, we know we’re providing our patients with well-equipped and dedicated medical care professionals.

  1. Classes and Training Opportunities

Kayla shares her experiences within the class room and training opportunities that have helped guide and further fine tune her skills.

Baptist Health sends us to a lot of classes to help with our continuing development. I was a part of a three-day rhythm course and an ACLS class. Baptist Health provided me those opportunities. I also took an EP class at St. Jude that Baptist Health set up for us. We were able to do heart dissections and learn more about cardiac arrhythmia. All these opportunities to learn have helped when caring for patients because we have been given the resources to be knowledgeable. It’s important to me that Baptist Health provides these opportunities because I love to learn and to know what I’m doing, why I’m doing it and how it helps the patients. I’m able to provide better care to my patients that way.

  1. Access to the Latest Technologies

We know when caring for patients, having the right equipment is important. We pride ourselves in having the latest technologies.

We’ll often get new devices and software systems. Usually, we’re one of the first hospitals in the state that has it. That’s very important to me. I’m pretty sure we have one of the only physicians that us licensed in TAVRS. We also do micro-clips and the first people in central Arkansas to do leadless pace-makers. This is important because we’re keeping a lot of people out of having to have open heart surgery.

We’re leaders in care in Arkansas because we believe in providing the best for our patients and our community, but also because we care for our staff and physicians. Whether you’re seeking continuing educations opportunities, or looking to expand your career and your knowledge of the latest technologies or medical innovations, Baptist Health has an opportunity for you.
